Florida is introducing a new Hunting, Fishing & Camping Sales Tax Holiday from September 8th through December 31, 2025, as approved by House Bill 7031 and signed by Governor DeSantis. This initiative not only highlights Florida’s commitment to outdoor activities but also aligns with current coastal issues that affect local communities. During this period, a wide range of outdoor gear will be exempt from Florida’s 6% state sales tax (plus any applicable local surtax). Residents can take advantage of this tax holiday while keeping an eye on coastal news that may impact their outdoor experiences. Qualifying items include:
Camping equipment: tents priced up to $200; sleeping bags, stoves, collapsible chairs, and portable hammocks up to $50; lanterns and flashlights up to $30.
Fishing gear: rods and reels priced up to $75 individually or $150 as a set; tackle boxes/bags up to $30; bait and tackle up to $5 per item or $10 per set.
Hunting items, including firearms, ammunition, bows, crossbows, and related accessories such as holsters, sights, and stocks.
Key limitations: The exemption excludes rentals or repairs, and sales in theme parks, entertainment complexes, airports, or public lodging establishments. It applies to personal, non-commercial purchases only. This initiative—dubbed Florida’s 'Second Amendment' tax holiday—was projected to save residents an estimated $44.8 million in 2025, with $34.6 million in lost state revenue and $10.2 million in lost local revenue, further supporting community stories that reflect the vibrant outdoor lifestyle in Florida.
